The
NYPD prompted a nationwide recall of Chevrolet Impalas used as police cruisers
after city cops spotted a defective part, officials said Thursday. The recall, which covers more than 36,000
police vehicles across the country, is expected to begin Aug. 21, officials
said.
General
Motors announced the recall of 2008 to 2012 models after the NYPD alerted the
automaker that the vehicles’ front lower control arms, which support the front
wheels, were cracking, officials said. There
were no reports that the defective part had caused any accidents or injuries.
The
NYCPD has 2,366 Impalas in its fleet and 1,613 are subject to the recall.
